The Name of the Game

On last Monday Sony’s San Diego Studios announced via the Playstation Blog that they are looking for community submissions for the name of their upcoming Vita MNR release.  So far it looks like the title"ModNation Racers Vita" is the uncreative winner.

Now the idea of bringing in community suggestion really does get people involved and it is a good way to include your community - but shouldn’t the name of the Vita ModNation Racers be just that?  For the PS3 the game is called ModNation Racers, and for the PSP the game is called ModNation Racers so why change the pattern?

Naming the game anything other than what it is would be very difficult.  You cannot feasibly drop the “Racers” as it is still a kart racing game.  You also can’t ditch the “ModNation” as that is the main identifying title.  So what then other than ModNation Racers 2, and what would be wrong with that?

Now it does sport a new career mode with around 20 new tracks, so it is in effect a sequel.  Nothing though has been mentioned about the cast returning or if we are following a new career, so it is still not clear if this is a different entry in MNR or a story continuation.  Of course knowing these details would help in the naming of the game: ModNation 2: Tag Strikes Back, or ModNation: Weekend at Gary’s could be viable if the story matches.
